Panthers find another win against the Generals07/01/2024 11:35 PM - On Monday, Indiana traveled to Griffith to take on the Generals. After nine full innings of play, the Panthers left with a big win and lots of smiles. Scoring started in the top of the third after Jaylun Camper walked and Arnoldo Velazquez reached on a fielding error. Michael Pustelnik singled to left to bring both runners home. Vinnie Marvucic followed with a walk and another fielding error brought Gino Gazzillo on base and Pustelnik across the plate to take a three run lead. Camden Smith put a sac fly into right to score Marvucic and a single from Danny Puplava brought home Gazzillo. The score after the top of the third was 5-0. The Generals began to climb right back in the third, bringing in two runs on two base hits, a hit by pitch, a fielding error, and a walk. The fun did not stop for the boys in blue as they continued their hitting in the fourth. Velazquez reached on a walk followed by a ground ball put into right field by Dom Owens to put two runners on base. Pustelnik reached on an error to score Velazquez, making the score 6-2. Bats went quiet until the bottom of the fifth inning when Griffith put one run on the board with three singles and a sac fly to come within three runs. The Claws found their fire in the sixth, with a walk from Owens followed by a knock to right field by Marvucic to get things started. Gazzillo hit a beautiful ground ball in the corner of right field for a double to score both runners. Smith hit a single to right to bring in Gazzillo and take a six run lead. The ninth inning had one last stride with a walk from Gazzillo and an RBI single from Puplava to finish the game with a 10-4 victory. This game was so entertaining to watch because of the pure skill on both sides of the ball from Indiana. Anthony Scanlon pitched his first ever complete game with 135 pitches and six K's. Only one of the Generals' runs being earned brings Scanlon's ERA to 1.29 and he actually asked coach Sean Pierce to let him finish the game in front of his family. Danny Puplava also had an amazing night, batting 4 for 4 with 2 RBI. The Panthers look to continue their momentum at home against the NWI Oilmen at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Northern League Pitcher of the Week Jaden Jones is the projected pitcher for the game as he looks to earn his spot on the all-star roster. |
