Elkhart takes game two in three-game seriesIn what can only be described as an unfortunate pitching day, the Indiana Panthers took a loss in game two against the Miracle on Saturday. The boys in blue out-hit Elkhart County and put less errors on the board, but a rough day on the bump led to a large run deficit. Scoring started in the bottom of the first, where the Miracle had five walks, a sac fly, and a double to take a 3-0 lead. The Panthers saw all nine of Elkhart's hitters in the first inning. The scoring continued in the second with a walk, a single, and two batters hit by a pitch to put an insurance run on the board. The Panthers had a trick up their sleeve in the third, using a double steal to bring Dylan Passauer home to cut the deficit to 4-1. The Miracle took their run back in the bottom of the same inning with a solo shot to left to put the differential back to four. Alex Contreras led off the fourth by reaching on an error. Jake Graniczny singled two pitches later to put runner on first and thrid. Dylan Passauer took initiative to cut Elkhart's lead and put a bases-clearing double to left field making the score 5-3. The Panthers continued their stride in the fifith with a leadoff double by Michael Pustelnik followed by Vinnie Marvucic's single left to bring Pustelnik to third. Alex Contreras took his RBI opportunity with a sac fly to cut Elkhart's lead to one. Elkhart County kicked it up a notch in the bottom of the fifth, starting with a single and a batter taking a pitch in the arm. Two more base hits and a failed double play extended the Miracle lead to 7-4. One more run scored on an error in the bottom of the sixth to brign the difference back up to four. The top of the eighth was the last inning that the Panthers put men on bases. Jack Salzeider singled on a line to center followed by a double from Camden Smith to bring him around. The Panthers had found their final run of the game making the score 8-5. The Miracle put two more on the board with an RBI knock and a steal at the plate. Final score at the night's end was 10-5. Starting on the mound for Indiana was Dylan Passauer. He struck out one but walked ten and gave up five earned runs, earning the loss on the day. Dylan also was in the batting order and went one for one with 2 RBI. Michael Pustelnik replaced Passauer after four innings. Giving up the rest of the runs, but only walking five and striking out two. Pustelnik also hit for the Panthers, going three for four and coming all the way around one time. He said he was very pleased with his performance at the plate. "It felt great. Saw the ball very well. Looked like a beach ball out there." Despite giving up four earned runs on the mound, Pustelnik still said he felt good about how he pitched. "I feel like I did good. I haven't pitched in a while. They're a pretty good hitting team so they found my location with my fastball." Head coach Sean Pierce was happy with the team overall, understanding that the game would have looked very different if we had healthy pitchers to play. "I think we just had too many walks on the mound. I thought we swung it pretty good and played good defense but we gave them too many base runners." The Panthers extend the losing streak to eight with Saturday's loss. The team seems to have good chemistry and is very friendly amongst one another, but cannot seem to get runs where it counts. Coach Pierce says the more the team gets to know each other, the more success we'll have. Pustelnik said much of the same: "We're right near winning every time, even losing just in one or two innings. If we can scratch that off then we're good." The Panthers look to defeat the Miracle in the third and final game of the series on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET. You can watch in the multiple services the Miracle stream to. |
