An extra inning upset puts the losing streak to seven06/20/2024 9:45 PM - Indiana played a stellar game on Thursday against the Miracle but just fall short of victory in extra innings. Both teams got the bat on the ball which made for an exciting game. The Miracle opened the scoring with a sac fly after a double in the second. Runners fail to come around for the next inning. In the top of the fourth, Bryce Gelarden walked as the leadoff after five pitches. Luke Fassoth got hit by a pitch to put two on right after. Brek Baranoski put the runners to good use with a double bringing them both around, making the score 2-1 in favor of the Panthers. Elkhart County came right back with a two-run shot in the bottom of the fourth to left field to make it a 3-2 ballgame. They held off Indiana in the fifth and continued with two more runs on a walk, sac fly, and single. The top of the sixth featured the Panthers clawing their way back, starting with Fassoth's walk. Newcomer Peyton Robinson then reached on an error to put runners on first and second. Leo Zerillo walked the bases loaded and Jaylun Camper walked a run in. Demetrio Guizar immediately scored next on a passed ball to make the score 5-4 with three innings to go. The seventh and eighth were very straightforward with little hitting and skilled pitching from both sides. Indiana capitalized in the ninth after a leadoff single on a bunt from Demetrio Guizar. Dom Owens made solid contact, driving one to left to put runners on first and second. Bryce Gelarden showcased his skillful bunting with a sac to advance the runners. Seth McWilliams tied the game with a sac fly to center. The Panthers took the tie into extra innings. The tenth and eleventh had no hitting for Indiana, handing the win to the Miracle after a mishandled fly ball in left. Luke Fassoth had his first start on the mound, making his fifth appearance on the bump. He pitched six innings giving up three earned runs and six hits. Fassoth also was in the batting order today not recording an official at bat with 2 walks and a hit by pitch. Seth McWilliams pitched the last four innings, not giving up any earned runs and only giving up two hits. He ended up taking the loss on the mound but he tied the game at bat with a sac fly. The Panthers had a new teammate make his debut today, Peyton Robinson. He went two for five with a single and double, also putting on a show playing first base. In his interview after the game, he mentioned staying focused on the game and strategically thinking about every pitch. He also mentioned having a good connection with the team already. "We've got some chemistry right now. When we get more and more into the season, I'll get to know a lot more people. Head coach Sean Pierce was happy with how the team played, mentioning playing 10 solid innings and then making a crucial running mistake. He also looks forward to the next two games in Elkhart coming up. "We played good baseball today, just staying locked in the whole time. I know I asked for more than nine innings today, but sometimes that what it takes." The team will travel back to Elkhart on Saturday and Sunday.
