Indiana comes up short once more to the Oilmen

06/11/2024 2:57 PM -

The Panthers were set up for perfection on Tuesday, as the Oilmen took the least amount of runs they've had all season, but Indiana still falls short for a final score of 6-3.

The Panthers got the bats moving quickly at Oil City, taking a 1-0 lead in the second on Jaylun Camper's first hit of the summer, driving in Owens from third. That looked to be the end of Indiana's fire, though, as NWI put up four runs from a hit by pitch, sac fly, and triple.

The score remained 4-1 in favor of the Oilmen until the bottom of the sixth inning, where the men in yellow put up another run from a fielder's choice.

The bottom of the seventh looked very similar as the Oilmen put up an RBI single to center to make the score 6-1.

Indiana found their usual late-game flame as Philip Milatovic hit a sac fly with two in scoring position to bring to score to 6-2. Gino Gazzillo immediately followed up with a line drive to left to get one run closer to the Oilmen.

With one last chance to get back in the game, the Panthers hit the ball hard. Unfortunately, all the hard-hit pitches went straight to a man in the field, keeping them from scoring and ultimately losing the game 6-3.

Max Hoogeveen made his second start on the mound, pitching five innings and giving up five hits and no earned runs. He also struck out four and and walked none. Still with the stellar performance, Max took the loss on the mound. Korbin lawson relieved for the other three innings, giving two earned runs, one hit, and five walks.

Demetrio Guizar played his first full game with the Panthers, going 2-4 at the plate and scoring. When asked what his mindset was playing with older players in a development league, he responded, "Have fun, always believe in yourself, and see ball - hit ball." Guizar played second base today, going three for three.

Arnoldo Velazquez went 2 for 3 at the plate before hitting himself in the leg and having to leave the game. Hopefully, Velazquez remains healthy as he is a top hitter on the team so far.

The Panthers will begin continue the fight for win number two on Wednesday in Griffith.
