Panthers fall to Generals on opening day05/30/2024 9:10 PM - The Panthers lost a hard-fought match to the Generals on Thursday. Dropping five unearned runs in the first three innings, they rallied in the fourth to earn two runs, but ultimately couldn't come up with the W. The final score was 5-2. Anthony Scanlon picked up the loss on the mound, pitching six innings and giving up 7 hits. The Generals put five runs on the board while Scanlon was on the mound, but none of them were earned. The Panthers had three errors which led to all five unearned runs. Luke Fassoth pitched two innings with two Ks and one hit, not letting any more runs in for the last two innings.
Scanlon was very happy with his performance on the mound despite putting an L on his record. He mentions putting up eight Ks in six innings is not his usual saying, "I'm more of a pitch-to-contact guy. If I get strikeouts, I wouldn't say its by accident, but I like to get outs quick so strikeouts are just a result of getting ahead sometimes." He also understands errors are a part of the game and he has become experienced in not letting errors affect his game. He also gave a shoutout to catcher Dom Owens for learning his pitches quick and being a wall behind the plate.
While the Panthers lost the game, the players' spirits are still high. The team is excited to play their home opener Friday against Hammond and get more experience as a team. When the team gets to know each other more, we will certainly see less errors on the field. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Highland High School |
