Panthers Outslugged by Corn Dogs07/20/2022 10:21 PM - The Crestwood Panthers hit well, but it was not enough to overcome the Lake County Corn Dogs at Marian Catholic High School on Wednesday. The Corn Dogs jumped out to the lead early with two runs in the second and two more in the third. The Panthers responded with two more in the bottom of the third, but the Corn Dogs would score nine unanswered to put the game out of reach. Despite a valiant comeback effort, the Panthers would ultimately lose 14-8. Eight Panthers got hits on the day, and seven different Panthers each had RBIs. Jimmy Gurgone was the only Panther to have multiple RBIs on the day with two. The offensive performance was something head coach D’Vante Glenn loved to see. “I preach to be aggressive, and I think we did a great job with it.” Glenn said after the game. Matt Maloney had the start for the Panthers today and pitched into the sixth inning giving up six earned runs walking only one and striking out four. Ryan McGrath took over the final 2.1 innings giving up only one run on two hits. Glenn was pleased with the length of Maloney’s outing on the day. “Maloney goes out there and finishes what we need from him.” Glenn said, “For him to go out there and finish his innings was great to see.” The Panthers play next on Thursday against the Joliet Generals at Marian Catholic High School at 5 p.m. The Panthers are 3.0 games behind the Generals for the final Northern League Playoff spot.
