The Crestwood Panthers lost their first ever game against the Lake County Corn Dogs on Tuesday night.
The Panthers fell in a close one by the score of 4-2. The Corn Dogs took the lead early with two runs in the first inning.
The Panthers responded in the third inning with an RBI single Nico Pena, and Connor Janik scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to make it 4-2. Jacob White also enjoyed a solid night at with his second multi-hit game going two for four.
The pitching staff enjoyed an impressive ballgame, however. Starter Justin Schassburger was taken out for a minor injury after the first inning, and Jacob Cook and Charlie Faoro responded by throwing seven innings giving up only three hits and two earned runs. The pitching staff also combined for 12 strikeouts on the night.
“The bullpen did amazing for us.” said head coach D’Vante Glenn, “I hope to have them back out there and doing the same things for us.”
The Panthers play next on Tuesday night against the Joliet Generals at Marian Catholic High School. The Panthers have taken two of three against the Generals so far this season, but each game has been decided by only one run.
“I know it is a late night, but I hope the guys get some rest because it is going to be a dogfight tomorrow.” Glenn said.
