Panthers Fall Behind Early, Cant Contain OilmenCrestwood, Ill. – July 15, 2020 – In a rematch from Friday’s stunning Panthers (3-8) victory in Whiting, the Northwest Indiana Oilmen (7-3) returned with a vengeance, defeating Crestwood 9-2 on Wednesday afternoon. Northwest Indiana began their offensive attack early on, striking for eight runs in the game’s first four innings, while surrendering none to Crestwood. At the plate, two Panthers players in Ray Hilbrich (Purdue University-Northwest / Schererville, Ind.) and Jake Rybarski (Belmont Abbey College / Spring Grove, Ill.) recorded multi-hit performances, yet the rest of the lineup faced struggles at the plate. The team’s only two runs both scored in the seventh inning, as Rybarski posted an RBI single and Brett Riegler (University of Chicago / Downers Grove, Ill.) added a sacrifice groundout. On the mound, Crestwood witnessed the MCL debut of pitcher Dylan White (University of Chicago / Danville, Calif.), who dealt four strong innings in relief, giving up just one run and striking out three. Additionally, Anthony Scanlon (University of Dubuque / Saint John, Ind.) pitched one scoreless inning, recording a strikeout in the process. Both White and Scanlon figure to be major contributors for the Panthers’ pitching staff moving forward. Crestwood will receive its next opportunity for win number four on Thursday afternoon at legendary Howie Minas Field, as they oppose the Joliet Generals. Coverage begins at 1 p.m. on the Panthers’ Broadcast Network, available via Facebook Live. |
